A
New Federal Law
Requires That Your Website
Protect Minor Children,
Obtain Parental Permission, and
Provide Access To Your Data!
Is your website
in compliance with new Federal Laws?
If you
haven't designed in these features it probably isn't. COPPA
compliance is not built in to Microsoft FrontPage!
You could be at risk for tens
of thousands to millions of dollars in fines!
In April 2000, the United States Congress
passed the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. It became
effective in October 2001. You may be in violation right now!
Here's an example of the FTC enforcement
action!
Can children give you information about
themselves through your website? Using forms or via email?
Even if your site isn't specifically for children, if they can you could
be in
violation!
However, compliance
isn't hard or very time consuming. |
The good news is that
we can help you quickly
and inexpensively comply with this new Federal Law.
We can also help you stay in compliance, so
that new web designers or new content don't place you at risk - periodic
good faith audits also reduce the risk of fines if you are found to be
non-compliant!

Can you afford to wait? Built into
this new law is the ability for states to enforce it as well. Plus
any private attorney can take action against you in court - such
that you would be responsible for not only damages and fines, but potentially the
legal fees for ALL parties!

Federal Trade Commission
enforces COPPA and investigates
violation complaints. |
|
Remember that if you are discovered
to be in non-compliance, the Federal Government can levy fines of $11,000
per violation. There could be a violation for each person that
contacts you through your website!
Don't delay, at least find out for
sure! |
